Building The Home of New York Stories: Inside The People’s Theatre’s New Brand Campaign

I started working with The People’s Theatre in September 2025, as the organization prepared for one of the most important moments in its history: the opening of its new Centro Cultural Inmigrante in Upper Manhattan.

Today, we’re sharing another major piece of that work: a new :60 brand film, voiced by Lin-Manuel Miranda and brought to life in collaboration with Reel Track Media.

At the center of the campaign is a simple idea:

The People’s Theatre is The Home of New York Stories.

That positioning reflects much more than a building or a season of performances. The People’s Theatre has spent nearly two decades creating work rooted in immigrant experiences and the communities of Upper Manhattan. As the organization moves into its new home, our challenge was to translate that history, purpose and ambition into a brand platform that could introduce TPT to new audiences while remaining authentic to the people who helped build it.

Welcome to The People’s Theatre: Centro Cultural Inmigrante, The Home of New York Stories: Brand Film. Narrated by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Video by Reel Track Media. Brand and marketing strategy by PLR Group Inc.

Building a campaign around people, not just performances

The new brand film is part of a broader campaign centered on the voices, faces and stories of New Yorkers. Rather than simply telling audiences what The People’s Theatre is, the creative invites people to see themselves within it.That idea extends across the campaign, from the main brand film to individual vignettes featuring members of the TPT community.

Together, the work reinforces a series of ideas that have shaped the brand:

Curiosity lives here. Creativity grows here. Community is the art here.

And, ultimately:

Walk in. You belong here.

Having Lin-Manuel Miranda lend his voice to the campaign adds another meaningful layer. His work has long demonstrated the power of New York stories, immigrant stories and the communities that shape this city.

From strategy to the streets of New York

This fall, the campaign will move beyond the screen.

The work will appear across media with placements focused in the communities The People’s Theatre serves. That was an important part of the strategy. If the campaign is about belonging and community, it should show up where those communities actually live, work and move through the city.

The campaign will support the opening of the The People's Theatre: Centro Cultural Inmigrante, introduce audiences to TPT’s inaugural season and continue telling the individual stories behind the institution.

For PLR Group Inc., this project has brought together many of the areas I care most about: brand strategy, cultural marketing, media, storytelling and helping mission-driven organizations translate what makes them meaningful into something audiences can see, understand and participate in.

I’m incredibly grateful to The People’s Theatre for the trust and partnership, and to Reel Track Media for the collaboration and care they’ve brought to translating the campaign vision into film.

And this is still only the beginning.

There are more stories to tell, more work to share and, very soon, a new home for New York stories to experience.
